Support Republican Political Prisoners

Here are two anti-Agreement boards in Creggan, Derry.

On the east side of Central Drive, along with the boards seen in Stand Up And Speak Out, is a new IRPWA (web) board in support of Niall Sheerin. For background, see Our Present Fight.

The ‘Republican Solidarity With Palestine’ board was previously next to the waste-ground created when the Bogside shops were knocked down. The ‘No RUC’ circle goes back to 2022.

Love, Loyalty, Friendship

This emerald claddagh, flanked by two robins, was painted by Peaball (web) in Central Drive, Creggan, between two other pieces of street art (by Friz and emic) and so removing the last blank wall for graffiti at the entrance to the Bishop’s Field sports centre – see previously Victory To The PFLP. A gallery of anti-Agreement boards is still on the main exterior wall of the centre – see Stand Up And Speak Out and Support Republican Political Prisoners.

Defending The Community

A UVF roll of honour has been added in the apex above the small memorial garden (now reduced to a single stone) in the Caw, Londonderry: “In proud remembrance of our volunteers who defended this community with courage, dignity & pride: Billy Kirkwood, Noel Burke, Davy Moore, Raymond Miller, Jock Henderson, Gary Simpson, Willie Gurney, Davy Mills, Tommy Henderson, Sam Dickson”. None of these appear to have died during the Troubles itself. There was previously a plaque to four volunteers who died in 1975.

The large 36th (Ulster) Division board shows (on the left) various battalion insignia in three rows:
8th Royal Irish Rifles – East Belfast; 9th Royal Irish Fusiliers – Armagh, Cavan, Monaghan; 9th RIR – West Belfast; 8/9th RIR – Amalgamated 1917; 9th Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers – Tyrone;
10th RIR – South Belfast; 10th Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers – Londonderry; 11th Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers – Donegal, Fermanagh; 11th RIR – South Antrim; 11/13th RIR – Amalgamated 1917;
12th RIR – Central Antrim; 13th RIR – 1st Co Down; 14th RIR – Young Citizen Volunteers; 15th RIR – North Belfast; 16th RIR (Pioneers) – 2nd Co Down.

And Wilfrid Spender’s report on the 36th Division on the first day of the battle at the Somme (July 1st, 1916) is on the right – for the text, see Their Amazing Attack.

End British Internment!

“End Maghaberry torture: strip searching, isolation, controlled movement.” This is an older (c. 2020) board that has been re-presented to the world because the trees above it have recently been trimmed back. Nonetheless, the IRPWA still maintains a list of republican prisoners, including sixteen at Maghaberry, and provides updates on prisoners.

Dieu Et Mon Droit

That is, king or queen “by the grace of God” or divine right. The first UK monarch to use the phrase was Henry V in the early 1400s and it has been used as a royal motto since then, up to and including the present-day monarchs shown on this board in the Caw, Londonderry.

On the left, the past – Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II; in the centre, the present – His Majesty King Charles III; on the right, the future – William Prince Of Wales, Baron Of [sic] Carrickfergus.

The Welsh dragon is included alongside the three flags/crests that make up the Union Flag – St George’s Cross for England, St Andrew’s Saltire for Scotland, and St Patrick’s Saltire for Ireland.

For the same trio in Newtownabbey, see Past, Present, Future.

Believe In Your Dreams

Ryan McBride was a Derry City FC defender and captain who died suddenly in 2017 at the age of 27 (BBC). The stadium was renamed, and the Ryan McBride foundation (web) was established, in his honour.

The piece above (by Ray Bonner) is at the Brandywell stadiums; the banner below is in Lecky Road.

Keep ‘Er Lit, Sunshine

These two ‘welcoming’ pieces are next to Brandywell Park, at the western end of the Brandywell, Derry.

Above, a March 2026 piece by Dave Bonzai (ig) (Derry Journal) replacing long-standing graffiti that read “Keeper [sic] lit, sunshine”.

Below is an old (2011) “Welcome to Derry” with flowers and oak leaves.

Junk

Here is a small gallery of the wild-style and street-art in the street (formerly Anne Street) above Glendara, Derry. The most-recently painted works are the left-most quartet above, including (l-r) work by NOYS (ig), Dave Bonzai (ig), Kyle McGinley (writing “Jakey”) (ig), and Jam2 (ig).

The other three are older (2025) pieces at the rear gate of the Brandywell stadiums. Above the older NOYS piece is a board remembering Ryan McBride.

Rising From The Ashes

This mural, painted in 1981, still exists as is and is thus the oldest original mural in the north. It shows a phoenix rising from the shields of the four provinces and a stand of three flags: Starry Plough, Tricolour, and Sunburst.
