Magpies have a reputation – perhaps unfairly (BBC) – for stealing shiny things. This one is pulling the laces from an old boot.

“High above the city on a tall column stood the statue of the happy prince.” These are the opening words of Oscar Wilde’s short story ‘The Happy Prince’, first published in 1888 which describes the selfless acts of a statue and a swallow. This mural by Karl Fenton (ig) and Jordan Shaw (ig) in Water Street was designed to fit with the “Flight Of The Little Golden Swallow” walking trail (Experience Enniskillen | Fermanagh Lakelands) in Enniskillen (Impartial Reporter).

The guillemot is distinctive for its red “gape” (inside of mouth). It spends most of its time on and around water but nests on cliff ledges and other remote spaces in May (BirdWatchIreland). The pointed shape of the egg makes it less likely to fall off cliffs (British Birds). They have been nesting in Bangor since at least 1911 (Geograph). If you can’t spot any at the marina, you can check out this mural by Dan Leo (ig) in nearby Victoria Road.
